Utah Road Trip Feb 2010:

Arches National Park

I arrived at Arches in the midst of a snow storm. It was a tough call to even make the drive out. The weather was bad and the forecast worse. But I knew I would go home disappointed if I didn't see Arches. The only question was: Would it clear before I head back towards California? Thankfully after a day and half of waiting, I got one day of clear skies. Arches is magnificent and the highlight of my southern Utah tour.

Delicate Arch is the highlight of Arches. It shows it's beauty best at sunset which is when I made the hike out. The hike is out is not that long but the terrain is a bit difficult, with a good portion of the trail over slick rock. It's a don't miss when visiting Arches.

I came upon this railroad car and tracks at the intersection of Hwy 313 and Hwy 191. I had tried to drive out to the Canyonlands but the visibility dropped to near zero and snow started falling as the road climbed to higher elevations. I was glad to find an interesting subject after having to abort going to Canyonlands.
