Hiking out to Delicate Arch at sunset was the perfect end at a great day at Arches National Park. After spending two days waiting for the weather to clear, today was sunny but cold. Delicate Arch is just stunning. The approach adds to the dramac because the final section of the trail is a snowy path up the side of the cliff, and once you get to the top, the one is rewarded with this splendid vantage point to the arch.

Shot just north of Davenport, CA on Summer Solstice 2009. Both summer and winter solstices are important days to me. For thousands of years of humans have marked the solstice with some ancient civilizations building massive moments on solstice alignments. For me, it’s both a day to appreciate all the glorious sunlight of the longest day of the year and to think about our connection to our ancient ancestors.
