Hiking out to Delicate Arch at sunset was the perfect end at a great day at Arches National Park. After spending two days waiting for the weather to clear, today was sunny but cold. Delicate Arch is just stunning. The approach adds to the dramac because the final section of the trail is a snowy path up the side of the cliff, and once you get to the top, the one is rewarded with this splendid vantage point to the arch.

The peaks in Zion National Park all have outlandish names. The one of the interpretive signs says the names were early visitors method of making sense of the grandeur of the place.

Highgate Cemetery is wonderfully atmospheric Victorian era cemetery in Lodnon. With its overgrown vines and meandering paths, it feels right out of a English novel.

Treasure Island gives the only good vantage of the city’s skyline. It was cold and windy on Treasure Island the evening I took even though the weather in San Francisco itself was quite pleasant.

I stopped on the way home from the Reno Balloon Races at the Nevada State Railway museum. I was surprised to learn that many of the steam engines that the museum has in its collection were saved by Hollywood’s penchant for train movies.
