Alaska August 2010:

Seward

Seward with it's rain, fog and mist has the Pacific Northwest climate on steroids. Seward is only 120 miles for Anchorage but has none of Anchorage's urbanness. The drive down is beautiful and passes the Cook Inlet. Seward is quite temperate in even in the winter making it an ice free year-around port that dates back to the Alaska gold rush days. The highlight for Seward is a boat tour into Kenai Fjords National Park to one of the glaciers. A boat tour both gets one up close to a glacier and is great opportunity to see Gulf of Alaska wildlife. Tidewater glaciers are stunning to see from the sea. Their enormity washes over the visitor. And, with some luck, the glacier will be seen calving in to the sea.
