Everglades National Park

The Florida Everglades are truly a unique ecosystem as it is the only everglades in the world. Called the "River of Grass", the Everglades are in the wet season essentially a very wide, shallow, and moving river. Much of the exceedingly flat terrain is covered in grass. Winter is surprisingly the dry season and is the best time to visit. As the guide on the tram tour of Shark Valley joked, "Florida has two seasons, the hot season and the hotter season." The winter dry season is less hot and less rainy. It's also much better for spotting wildlife as the birds and alligators congregate in the few remaining areas with water. One of these is the Royal Palms area of the national park, which has a trail that is packed with wildlife in the winter dry season.
