New Zealand - South Island:

The East Coast

My primary motivation in traveling to the eastern side of the island was to see and photograph the Moeraki Boulders. These boulders are spherical rocks on a beach. I visited at sunrise and was surprised to see a hoard of tourists standing on the rocks and having their picture taken doing silly poses. There are enough boulders that I was able to avoid them but it's somewhat depressing to see how Instagram'ing is invading beautiful locations all over the world.

The Moeraki Boulders are a bit over a three-hour drive from Queenstown. For the average visitor, they probably aren't worth the trek. I did enjoy coming to the east coast of the island but that was primarily becauseI really liked seeing Oamaru.
