Sydney, By Night

I found Sydney to be throughly charming. I'd only been there once before, when I was 10 years old and remembered hardly anything from that trip. The harbor is stunning. The two major landmarks on the harbor, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are both quite beguiling. The Opera House in particular is facisnating from every angle.

Sydney is unique because it feels like a throughly modern cosmopolitian city but at the end of the world. I could never quite put my finger on what gives that feeling of being at the end of the world since most city denizens on most days are not leaving their metropolitan area regardless of how close it is the next one. Perhaps the distance to other places is a mental buffer of sorts. The rest of the world is there but the distance means thats its influence is less immediate and direct than it is in most other cities.
