Iceland 2025:

West Iceland

Most visits to Iceland start and end in the Western part of Iceland as the major airport, Keflavík, is in the West. We did say three major things in the west: Reykjavík, the Golden Circle, and the Snæfellsnes Pennisula.

Reykjavík being the capital has museums and a plethora of restaurants. The Golden Circle is in my opinion overrated. The sites in the rest of the country are better. It's really only worth doing if you have very limited time in Iceland. Snæfellsnes is quite scenic. Exactly how scenic is a bit hard for me to judge since the weather was mostly poor during my time on the peninsula. I never saw Snæfellsjökull since it was covered in clouds. Fortunately, the weather cleared long enough for me to photograph Mount Kirkjufell on my third attempt.
