Petra

Petra is a fabled place. It has the feeling being lost in time. It's in a remote valley in the Shara mountains and takes a trek across the desert to get to. These days the trek is not difficult due to the modern Desert Highway. It's a hard place to describe fully either in words or pictures. Even without its ancient city, just the rock canyons and colorful sandstone would make it worth a visit. Combined with a lost city, it's impressive place. It's Nabateans builders seem quite mysterious to me, perhaps because I hadn't studied up on them. Even so, it feels like they have vanished in time leaving us a remarkable yet very mysterious lost city which almost feels like it is out of Lord of the Rings.
